Requirements

The following sections outline the workstation (hardware) and software requirements necessary to properly install and run the Bentley Map product.

Operating System

The supported operating systems for Bentley Map installation are:

Windows 10 (32-bit and 64-bit)

Windows 8.1 (32-bit and 64-bit)

Windows 8 (32-bit and 64-bit)

Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit)

(Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 9x, Windows XP and Windows Vista series are not supported)

Bentley does not support its software running on Microsoft operating systems versions that Microsoft has "retired". For more information on Microsoft's application retirement policy, click here. For similar information on Bentley products, refer to the Bentley Product Support article.

Windows 8 is supplied with .NET Framework 4.5, whereas Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 10) requires .NET Framework 3.5. Hence, if you are installing Bentley Map V8i (SELECTseries 10) on Windows 8, you need to enable the .NET Framework 3.5 in Control Panel. Software Prerequisites

The Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications v08.11.09 are automatically downloaded and installed to your workstation while you install MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3). The Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications needs to be installed on your system once, and only needs to be reinstalled if you are installing a later version of MicroStation that requires an updated prerequisite pack. The Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications is available from the Software Downloads page. The contents of the Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications include:

Windows Installer Version 3.1v2

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP 1

Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 6 SP 1 (32-bit and 64-bit)

Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications core

Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications localized

DHTML Editing Control for Applications

DirectX 9.0c (DirectX 10 or higher recommended)

Microsoft Internet Explorer v6.0 or later with 128-bit cipher strength is also required. It is not part of the Prerequisites for Bentley Desktop Applications.

Workstation Profile

The minimum recommended workstation profile for installing and running Bentley Map is:

• Bentley Map Enterprise V8i: ~1.22 GB
• Bentley Map V8i (layered MicroStation installation): ~1.16 GB
• Bentley Map V8i (standalone installation): ~1 GB
• Bentley Map PowerView V8i: ~910 MB

Oracle

For use of Oracle Spatial functionality, the required server and client list is as follows:

• Server:
  • Oracle Database 12c Release 2 Enterprise Edition or Standard Edition
  • Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition, or Express Edition
  • Oracle Database 12c Release 2 Client x32
  • Oracle Database 11g Release 2 Client x32

  Microsoft SQL Server

  For use of Microsoft SQL Server spatial functionality, the required server list is as follows:

  • Server:
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition or Express Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition or Express Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2016 Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition or Express Edition
    • Microsoft SQL Server 2017 Enterprise Edition, Standard Edition or Express Edition

    MicroStation

    If planning to perform a layered Bentley Map "For MicroStation" product installation, the following version of MicroStation must first be installed and configured properly.

    • Prerequisite Product: MicroStation
    • Version: 08.11.09.908
    • Language: English

    Please note that a separate MicroStation installation is not required for the "Standalone" versions of the Bentley Map PowerView, Bentley Map or Bentley Map Enterprise products.

    FME Desktop

    One of the following versions of the FME Desktop 32-bit for Windows software must be installed and properly licensed to use the Bentley Map FME Extension functionality. Please note that the FME Desktop installation should be performed from a user account that has administrative privileges on the local machine.
