Information shared in this online course discusses childhood adversity, which research demonstrates to be common. It is possible that you or someone you know has been personally impacted by childhood adversity. You are invited to care for yourself while you complete this module by acknowledging feelings that might arise and allowing time to process them. This may include journaling, taking breaks to release stress, and having someone available with whom to discuss insights you’ve gained.
Learning about the impact of traumatic events on health, well-being and social consequence across the lifespan has the potential to increase empathy and compassion. It is also an invitation to put the patient in the center of the healthcare team, recognizing that your lived experience becomes your biology, which means that we can serve them best when we partner with them when setting goals for their health outcomes.
